Our Mission:
The Trans-masculine Abuse Project (TAP) is a national organization working to eliminate Intimate Personal Violence and/or Domestic Violence against all men of transgender experience and/or masculine of center individuals by:
Providing support through our online groups, forums and website.
Acting as an educational and informational resource to group members, allies and/or supporters and other groups and organizations.
Providing a strong, unified presence and voice for transgender men or masculine of center individuals who are targets of IPV/DV.
Our Philosophy:
We believe in the right of all persons to live without fear, abuse, oppression and violence. We oppose all forms of dominance over others. We believe in the need to change societal attitudes that encourage the abuse of power to control others and we are committed to this struggle.
We believe that work against societal violence must be achieved through networking locally as well as nationally, through direct services, community education, and political action.
We should be accountable to our communities, to men of transgender and/or masculine of center individuals and families. We believe services should be accessible and responsive to battered men of transgender experience and/or masculine of center individuals from diverse groups, regardless of age, culture, class, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, chronological age, gender age, or developmental and/or physical ability.
We believe ethical communication and positive collaboration with advocates and programs working to end IPV/DV for all is necessary to change social attitudes. Since the struggle of battered men of transgender and/or masculine of center individuals is related to the struggle for empowerment, we are committed to maintaining a supportive, noncompetitive atmosphere in all aspects of our programs. Open communication, respect, and cooperation will be encouraged among all members.
We believe batterers should be held accountable for their actions. We encourage the participation of all persons or groups who are committed to the struggle to end IPV/domestic violence.
